This summer is extra special because this year, on July 4, 2026, the United States of America will celebrate its 250th birthday! That means that the fireworks, parades, festivals, and memories will last a lifetime. And there happens to be no other place to celebrate America’s big milestone birthday than in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains. From your Bear Cove Cabin, you are perfectly positioned to explore all the incredible events and activities happening in the Smokies this summer. Here is your ultimate guide to making the most of your summer vacation!
Gatlinburg 4th of July Parade & Fireworks

If you’re staying in one of our Gatlinburg cabins, you are in the perfect spot for one of the most unique Fourth of July celebrations in the country. Gatlinburg hosts its famous 4th of July Parade starting at 12:01 AM, and yes, you read that right, midnight! We do suggest going to Gatlinburg on the evening of Friday, July 3rd, to find yourself the perfect viewing spot before all the crowds arrive. Staking out your spot early means you’ll have a front-row view of all the fun.
Later that evening, on July 4th, around 10:00 pm, the sky will light up with stunning fireworks lasting about 20 minutes. Some of the best spots to watch the fireworks are near Lights 3 and 5 in downtown Gatlinburg.
One of the most exciting events this summer is the Pigeon Forge Patriot Festival, which has grown into a two-day celebration in honor of America’s 250th Birthday. Head over to Patriot Park off Old Mill Avenue on July 3rd and 4th for a FREE, family-friendly event that is open to the public.
On July 3rd, country music star Craig Morgan will take the stage for a performance you don’t want to miss. Then on Saturday, July 4th, Carly Pearce will close out the festivities, and right after her performance, get ready for a breathtaking grand-finale fireworks show that will light up the Smoky Mountain sky in celebration of the exciting event.
Admission is free, so bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and cash to pick up food from on-site vendors. We promise you this will be a night you remember for years to come. This is truly one of the best ways to celebrate the 4th of July in the Smoky Mountains. With free admission, your only expense will be food and drinks from the vendors.
Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration at Dollywood
If you’ve not experienced Dollywood’s Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration, this is the summer to do it. Running from June 15th through August 2nd, 2026, this incredible seasonal event transforms the beloved theme park into a summer wonderland. Vibrant colors brighten the park, interactive fountains, a splash-and-play area for the kids (and even kids at heart), and the famous Kite Sky.
End your day at Wildwood Grove in the park with a drone show and fireworks, plus a fun dance party. It’s a fantastic outing for the whole family and a great way to spend the day during your vacation.

If you’re looking for something new to do in the area, then head over to Ober Gatlinburg for a three-day event called the Black Bear & Berry Jam Festival. Happening July 17 – 19, 2026, your family can enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of the area with live music, delicious treats, and sweet berry aromas. For those intrigued by local black bears, you’ll hear from our wildlife staff, who will share facts with you and your family. This is such a fun new event happening in the area that we had to share it with you.
More Summer Fun in the Smokies
The events are just the beginning of summer fun! The Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area is bursting with amazing things to do here all summer long. Here are a few more must-dos for your vacation.
As temperatures rise in the mountains this summer, head over to Pigeon Forge Snow, an indoor snow tubing attraction. Some of the unique experiences you can enjoy include snow tubing, snow play, and a candy shop. For parents who don’t want to snow tube, there’s an overlook lounge. Pigeon Forge Snow offers different options, including snow play only, an hour of snow tubing, and an all-day snow day pass. The kids will love this attraction on your next vacation to the Smokies.

Another fun and exciting attraction that many people try is a mountain coaster. These thrilling rides will offer visitors stunning mountain views and heart-pumping excitement.
There are many mountain coasters in the area, but favorites include the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster, the Wild Stallion Mountain Coaster, and the Goat Coaster at Goats on the Roof.
No trip to the Smoky Mountains would be complete without seeing one of the area’s legendary dinner shows. The Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg areas are home to some of the best dinner shows in the country, and we have three to recommend.
This dinner show is iconic in the area and the most visited dinner attraction. Dolly Parton’s Stampede is an unforgettable night out for the whole family. Watch horses and their riders compete; plus, other fun animals will join the show. This year, there is a new segment in the show called Butterfly Dreams, featuring stunning special effects, including a horse transforming into a butterfly. Arrive early, as there is a pre-show to catch, and you’ll also be able to visit the horses. While you’re watching the show, you will be served a delicious four-course Southern feast. It’s a must-see during your Smoky Mountain vacation with the family.
Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud
Get ready to laugh, cheer, and chow down over at the Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud. The show is about the hilarious mountain feud unfolding right before your eyes as you dig into your all-you-can-eat Southern spread.
We do recommend that you come extra hungry, as you will get full on the delicious food. After a day of excitement at Dollywood, head back to your 2-bedroom cabin to enjoy this fun show with dinner.

Do you have anyone in the family who loves pirates? If you do, then you’ve got to check out Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show in Pigeon Forge. Join Captain Blackbeard as he leads his team into an exciting battle featuring sword fights, acrobatics, mermaids, and so much more. Plus, there will be live animals and an indoor lagoon. Dinner will be a four-course feast fit for a pirate that the family will love. Be sure to come hungry and enjoy the show.
All three shows are outstanding and offer something truly special, so if you can, try to fit them all into your trip. If you can’t fit all three in, we suggest you try at least one of them on your vacation.
